Precote 85
High strength microencapsulated pre-applied thread locker with controlled torque tension — rated from -58°F to 338°F and 5760 psi. Starts to lock in 10 minutes, fully cured in 8 hours. Heat-resistant, solvent-free, dry to the touch. The controlled torque tension characteristic distinguishes Precote 85 from Precote 80 — same high strength, different torque profile.
Standard lead time 1–2 weeks — from receipt at our dock to coated parts back on yours. Rush accommodated on request. Customer pays inbound and outbound freight; F.O.B. St. Charles, IL.

High strength with controlled torque tension — for applications where installation torque must be managed.
Precote 85 is the controlled prevailing torque member of the Precote high-strength thread locker line. Where Precote 80 is the standard high-strength grade, Precote 85 is specified when the installation torque must be precisely managed — typically in safety-critical automotive and industrial fastener applications where over- or under-torquing has consequences.
The microencapsulated acrylate system is the same class of chemistry as Precote 30 and 80: capsules are inert in storage, broken by thread engagement at assembly, and the adhesive cures at room temperature. Precote 85 achieves the same 338°F temperature ceiling and 5760 psi sealing pressure as Precote 80. The 10-minute initial lock and 8-hour full cure are also consistent between the two grades. The difference is in the cured torque behavior.
Controlled torque tension means the cured Precote 85 film provides consistent, predictable resistance to rotation — the prevailing off-torque values are controlled within a defined range rather than varying based on thread geometry or assembly variables. This is the characteristic that makes Precote 85 appropriate for applications where torque audit and torque control are part of the quality process.
Heat resistance and the extended -58°F to 338°F operating range make Precote 85 suitable for high-temperature fastener applications where both the locking performance and the torque control must be maintained through thermal cycling. Turquoise color distinguishes Precote 85 from Precote 80 (pink) at the assembly station — both are high strength, but the color signals which grade has been applied.

PRODUCT
Precote 85TURQUOISE
High strength microencapsulated acrylate thread locker and sealant with controlled torque tension. The defining distinction from Precote 80.
CHEMISTRY
Microencapsulated AcrylateSOLVENT-FREE
Solvent-free microencapsulated acrylate. Capsules break on thread engagement, adhesive mixes and cures at room temperature. Same chemistry class as Precote 30 and 80.
CONTROLLED TORQUE
YesPREVAILING TORQUE CONTROLLED
The key differentiator from Precote 80. The cured film provides controlled, consistent prevailing off-torque values — critical for applications with torque audit requirements or torque-sensitive assembly processes.
STRENGTH
HighLOCK + SEAL
High-strength classification. Same level as Precote 80.

Full operating range: -58°F to 338°F.
INITIAL LOCK TIME
10 MinutesSTARTS LOCKING
Resistance to rotation begins within 10 minutes of assembly — consistent with Precote 80.
