Non-reactive thread sealant — pure sealing, no locking, reusable.
Precote 5 is the non-reactive, water-based member of the Precote pre-applied sealant family. Where Precote 30, 80, and 85 use microencapsulated acrylate chemistry to both lock and seal the thread, Precote 5 seals only — it is non-reactive, requires no curing trigger, and remains readjustable in service.
The Precote 5 coating is applied to the fastener thread and dries to a flexible, non-reactive film that is dry to the touch and ready for immediate assembly. On installation, the film conforms to the thread interface and seals against fluid migration. No chemical activation, no capsule break, no cure time — the seal is functional as soon as the fastener is tightened.
The -76°F to 356°F operating range makes Precote 5 suitable for a wide range of service environments. The product seals against water, motor oil, and brake fluid at pressures up to 216 psi. Because the chemistry is non-reactive, the coated fastener can be removed and reinstalled without stripping the seal — an advantage for maintenance-access applications and for hardware that requires periodic repositioning.
Precote 5 is a thread sealant, not a thread locker. For applications requiring vibration-resistant locking in addition to sealing, see Precote 30 (medium strength) or Precote 80/85 (high strength).
