The Precote family covers two distinct performance needs in one product line. Precote 5 and 15 are non-reactive coatings — they seal the thread against fluid migration without providing locking force, and the joint can be readjusted or disassembled without stripping the coating. These grades are appropriate when sealing is the requirement and locking is not.

Precote 30, 80, and 85 use a different mechanism. The microencapsulated acrylate coating sits dormant on the fastener until thread engagement at assembly crushes the capsules, releases the acrylate, and initiates room-temperature cure. The cured film locks the fastener against vibration loosening and seals the thread against fluid and gas migration. These grades are not reusable — the cure consumes the coating.

Within the locker grades: Precote 30 is medium strength for applications where some serviceability is needed. Precote 80 is high strength with 10-minute initial lock — the fast-cure, high-pressure grade for high-temperature applications. Precote 85 adds controlled torque tension on top of the Precote 80 specification — specified when installation torque must be precisely managed.
