Dri-Loc STS is the specialist in the Loctite Dri-Loc family — the only grade engineered specifically for straight threaded assemblies that require both sealing and locking in a single pre-applied film. Where the other Dri-Loc grades are primarily threadlockers, STS leads with its sealing function.
The STS formulation uses a methacrylate ester-based film — chemically distinct from the anaerobic acrylate resin used in every other Dri-Loc grade. This chemistry delivers two properties that matter most in straight-thread sealing applications: fast cure speed and high installation lubricity. The fastener runs down smoothly at controlled torque, the seal activates immediately on engagement, and the joint resists both fluid leak-through and vibration loosening from the first turn.
Dri-Loc STS is dry to the touch in storage and dimensionally stable — it does not migrate, activate prematurely, or pick up contamination on the shelf. On assembly, thread engagement excludes air from the film and initiates the cure reaction. The resulting joint provides a medium-strength mechanical lock alongside the fluid seal. The film is consumed at install. Removal is possible at medium-strength torque levels without heat, but reinstall requires reapplication.
STS meets GM6124M, GM14657A, and Chrysler MScc76-b — OEM material specifications that appear on straight-thread fastener prints in automotive powertrain and chassis programs.
