Vibra-Seal 503HV White.
High-viscosity, thixotropic pre-applied thread sealant engineered for superior gap-filling on looser thread fits. Dries to a resilient, tight-clinging, non-curing film with constant-on torque and vibration resistance. Reusable up to five times — built for assemblies that see repeated readjustment. The high-viscosity counterpart to Vibra-Seal 503. 300°F rated.

High-viscosity, thixotropic — the gap-filling Vibra-Seal grade.
Vibra-Seal 503HV is the high-viscosity counterpart to Vibra-Seal 503 — engineered for thread fits where the standard-viscosity grade would drain away before achieving full seal coverage. The “HV” designation and thixotropic chemistry make this the grade for looser fits, larger annular gaps, and assemblies that will be readjusted repeatedly over their service life.
The 503HV formulation is a water-based, thixotropic sealant — meaning it behaves like a gel at rest but flows readily under the shear forces of installation. This property is the mechanical basis for its superior gap-filling performance: the sealant stays where it’s placed during assembly rather than running off a looser thread before the seal sets. Once installed, it dries to a resilient, tight-clinging, non-curing film that seals against fluid and gas migration on tapered or straight threads.
503HV provides constant-on, prevailing-torque resistance to vibrational loosening — the joint resists rotation under service vibration without seizing. The non-curing film is documented for up to five reassembly cycles, making 503HV well suited to fittings, gauges, and adjustment hardware that are expected to be serviced or recalibrated multiple times over the life of the assembly. Each disassembly and reassembly cycle is accounted for in the product’s design — this is not an incidental property but a stated performance characteristic.
503HV and the standard-viscosity 503 share the white color, the 300°F continuous rating, and the broad coating-and-plastic substrate compatibility of the Vibra-Seal family. The decision between them comes down to thread fit and gap size: standard or tight thread tolerances call for 503; looser fits, larger gaps, or applications with frequent readjustment call for 503HV. If a print specifies NSF approval, confirm which grade is NSF-listed — the standard 503 carries confirmed NSF approval for potable water; 503HV NSF status should be confirmed against the current TDS before specifying for NSF-regulated applications.

PRODUCT FAMILY
Loctite Vibra-Seal 503HVWHITE
High-viscosity (“HV”) member of the white Vibra-Seal family. 503HV is the gap-filling counterpart to the standard-viscosity 503. Same color and general application range; viscosity and gap-fill capacity are the differentiators.
CHEMISTRY
Water-BasedTHIXOTROPIC
Thixotropic formulation — gel-like at rest, flows under the shear forces of installation. This property is what gives 503HV its superior gap-filling: the sealant stays in place on looser threads rather than draining away before the seal sets.
FUNCTION
Thread SealPRIMARY
Primary function is sealing against fluid and gas migration through threaded joints, on tapered or straight threads. Secondary function is vibration-resistant locking with prevailing-torque characteristics.
VISCOSITY
HighSUPERIOR GAP-FILLING
High-viscosity, thixotropic formulation purpose-built for looser thread fits and larger annular gaps than the standard 503. For tighter, standard-fit threads, the low-viscosity 503 is the appropriate grade.
TEMPERATURE RANGE
Up to 300°FCONTINUOUS
Continuous-service ceiling to 300°F. Resistant to thermal cycling through the full service range.
ON-TORQUE
ConstantPREVAILING TORQUE
“Constant-on” / prevailing-torque characteristics resist loosening under vibration while permitting controlled disassembly. The joint maintains consistent resistance to rotation without seizing.
REUSABILITY
YesUP TO 5 REASSEMBLY CYCLES
Designed for applications where readjustments are required — documented for up to five reassembly cycles without loss of sealing performance. A meaningful upgrade in specificity over a generic “reusable: yes” callout.
SUBSTRATE
All Coating Types+ MOST PLASTICS
Works on all coating types and most plastic substrates. Suitable for mixed-material assemblies common in plumbing, HVAC, and general industrial sealing applications.
VISUAL ID
WhiteCOLOR-INSPECTABLE
White links 503HV visually to the standard 503 — both are the “white Vibra-Seal” grades, distinguishing them from the orange GM-NA grades (516/517). Viscosity (HV designation) is the only differentiator between 503 and 503HV.
